2018 Mercedes-AMG® E 63 S Wagon
In the world of automotive technology, the most impressive vehicles are often the ones you least expect. As it is a station wagon, one might anticipate that the 2018 Mercedes-Benz AMG® E 63 S Wagon would have the same performance characteristics as any other suburban vehicle. In fact, the new Mercedes-Benz goes far beyond the characteristics of a standard residential car, offering the performance levels of a Corvette or Lamborghini without sacrificing cargo space.
The E 63’s most unique feature is its twin-turbocharged, 4-liter V8 engine. Offering power rarely found outside of the racetrack, the engine gives the vehicle a horsepower of 603, as well as 627 pounds per foot of torque. This translates into a rapid rate of acceleration. The E 63 can increase its speed from 0 miles per hour to 60 in as little as 3.4 seconds, making it virtually identical to premium sports vehicles like the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Even this may overestimate its time, as previous versions of the vehicle achieved the same acceleration despite having less horsepower.
From 60 miles per hour, the E 63 can continue to accelerate until it reaches 180, at which point its electronic safeguards prevent it from accelerating further. With speeds like this, this station wagon would be as useful at the Grand Prix as it is for making grocery runs and soccer trips. Little wonder, then, that Mercedes-Benz chose the Geneva Motor Show to introduce it to the world.
Having such impressive performance features does not mean that the E 63 neglects its duties as a station wagon. The new Mercedes-Benz offers 35 cubic feet of interior space; drivers have the option of lowering its rear seats to create even more room. This makes it ideal for transporting groceries, sporting equipment, camping gear, and all other residential items.
In addition to combining Grand Prix performance characteristics with cargo carry capacity, the E 63 S Wagon offers:
- Safety & Security – The new Mercedes-Benzcomes with Drive Pilot, a suite that combines a variety of passive and active safety devices. It takes advantage of semiautonomous driving technology, reducing the chance of an accident even at its extreme speeds. It also has uprated brakes, allowing it to come to a quick halt with minimal danger.
- Esthetic Enhancements – The E 63 has sports seating, a 12.3-inch LCD screen, carbon fiber gauges, nappa leather door and dashboard plate wrapping, and a steering wheel bearing the AMG® brand. This creates an interior luxurious enough to match the vehicle’s sleek, streamlined exterior.
- Multiple Modes – The car’s selector includes Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, and Drift modes, allowing you to optimize it for a wide range of driving experiences. It can also switch between rear- and all-wheel drive and has a 9-speed automatic transmission The Mercedes – AMG® E 63 S Wagon will be available in the United States through special order starting in the fall of 2017.
