Mercedes-Benz EQ Concept
After several years of toying with the idea of building an electric vehicle, Mercedes-Benz will unveil the EQ Concept at the Paris Motor Show. EQ is a play on the term “IQ”, and Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of “emotion and intelligence”. The debut at the Paris Motor Show won’t be just about the EQ Concept, but also focus on how its features will help make the brand more eco-friendly as a whole.
What is the EQ Brand All About?
The EQ will encompass battery-electric cars as well as associated products and services. Mercedes-Benz already offers a charging infrastructure for EVs, a fast-charging station for the home, “Charge&Pay”, a free app for homeowners and businesses used for recharging at public stations, through photovoltaic or solar systems. All this will be bundled together under EQ in order to promote a consistent and clear image for sustainable products and services.
But Isn’t It Just a Concept?
Technically, the EQ is just a concept car, but it’s also close to production. Mercedes-Benz plans to finalize the EQ before the end of the decade. While it will be part of the SUV segment, other electric vehicles will become available shortly after.
The Future of Mercedes-Benz
While it’s unlikely gasoline fueled vehicles will be phased out anytime soon, Mercedes-Benz will be focused on making EQ vehicles available for consumers who are interested in battery-electric options in several different styles and models. These cars will continue to focus on the quality and luxury that the brand has always offered, while also moving toward more eco-friendly options. Since the company already has wall charger options and a pay-as-you-go system for recharging at public facilities, it should be relatively easy for Mercedes-Benz to make the switch toward more electric offerings.
